We have a 3 month-old baby in the house, in fact he’ll be 3 months old tomorrow. I can’t believe it was 3 months ago that I went through an 18 hour labour and survived! At the same time, it seems the last few months have gone quite slowly. It’s been hard the last week or so with the torrential rain in Sydney, we’ve been cooped up quite a bit inside, but I’ve been getting busy in the kitchen cooking up a storm.

What’s cooking in my kitchen?

For a start, the slow cooker has been getting a workout. This chilli recipe has gotten a workout, as has my hearty chicken & veg soup.

I’m also loving baking pies and pasta dishes, casseroles and stews. Here are a few other recipes that are on high rotation in my kitchen …

Who ate all the pies? I probably did…

Chorizo and chickpea pasta (I use Vetta pasta – it’s wholemeal and high in fibre so makes me feel better about eating it)

Doesn’t look pretty, but boy does it taste good.

What’s happening on the exercise front?

I’m getting married in 7 weeks. Yep, 7 weeks. I bought my wedding dress last weekend, and have the final fitting in 4 weeks. The designer said it would be good if I didn’t lose too much more weight in the next 4 weeks, as alterations would cost more, so that’s an incentive to eat more cake, right? Hahaha – no.

Currently my exercise routine consists of visiting the gym twice a week (I re-joined about a month ago) to do weights and cardio, and walking a couple of times a week with the pram (which in itself weighs 10kgs + a baby who weighs around 7kg). I’ve done a bit of the Bay Walk with my mothers group, and have done the odd yoga DVD when the baby hasn’t allowed me to leave the house, but otherwise I’m getting quite a bit of exercise just holding, carrying and bouncing a baby up and down for approximately 12 hours a day. And you know, that’s enough right now.

I’m feeling back to ‘normal’ more and more every day, and physically I’m all healed. It’s a new routine and a new life being a stay-at-home-mum, and one that’s taken me some getting used to. I keep feeling like there’s something else I need to be doing – like working! But I have become a master at multi-tasking – just call me Mistress of All Washing, Vacuuming and Cleaning.

And now the sun has come out, finally. So we’re off for a walk …

Stay Fit & Well,
